West, Mae
(17 ago. 1892/93, Brooklyn, N.Y., EE.UU.–22 nov. 1980, Los Ángeles, Cal.).

Actriz de cine estadounidense. Alrededor de 1901 actuaba en una compañía de repertorio de Brooklyn, y en 1907 ya era una artista del circuito nacional del vodevil. Debutó en Broadway como actriz y cantante en 1911. En 1926 comenzó a escribir, producir y protagonizar sus propias obras que se presentaban Broadway, como la provocativa Sex (1926), Diamond Lil (1928) y The Constant Sinner (1931), producciones que la implicaron en prolongados pleitos legales. Su sensualidad espontánea, sus actitudes esplendorosas y sus sarcásticos comentarios de doble sentido fueron su sello en películas como Lady Lou (1933), No es pecado (1934), No soy ningún ángel (1933) y My Little Chickadee (1940). Durante la segunda guerra mundial los soldados aliados llamaban "Mae Wests a sus chalecos salvavidas inflables en honor a su espectacular figura de estrecha cintura. En la década de 1960, sus filmes volvieron a estar de moda, y posteriormente actuó en Myra Breckenridge (1970). Su último trabajo cinematográfico fue Sextette (1979).
